Bag or Boyfriend?

Louis Vuitton is hot. Marc Jacobs is sexy and Michael Kors makes us warm and tingly. As for me, I’m a Gucci girl myself. That is, I would be, if a Gucci bag was a man and it didn’t cost more than my rent. With Valentine’s Day on our heels some single ladies might be feeling disheartened with a dash of pissed. Everywhere they go on the 14th of February, they’ll see girls with single red roses, giggling teenagers with teddy bears or couples holding hands in matrimonial bliss. After their 4th co-worker goes to the front desk to collect her bouquet, some single ladies might start feeling a little crabby. They might pick up their phones searching for that, I love you, text that never came. They might check their mailbox for that, baby I miss you, card that didn’t arrive. They might check their voicemail for that, I was just thinking of you, message that didn’t come through. As far as they’re concerned, Valentine’s Day sucks! Looking at themselves they can’t understand the problem. Their svelte, their stilettos are 4 inches high and the red pencil skirt they wore to their corporate job was killer. Don’t get me started on their designer handbag that they happily sacrificed their 401k to buy. If nothing else, the new bag makes that woman feel important, special and happier than any male mammal on two legs. Because of this, women give their designer purchase special treatment. They rub it down with special oils to keep it supple. They caress it with loving fingertips and they make a special place for it in their closet. It’s valuable and they treat that bag like the treasured item that it is. This brings me to the point of this post.

Do women treat their bags better than their boyfriends? When was the last time the man in your life got a rub down with exotic oils made especially for the soft texture of his skin? Do you remove clothing from drawers in your house so your man feels like you’ve prepared a special place just for him? Do you touch your man with loving hands that communicate that you appreciate the person that he is? What would happen to our relationships if we looked to Peter instead of Prada to bring us joy and bliss?

Are you giving your Louie a little bit too much love? Are you holding your Hermes a little too tight? If your one true love is created from man-made leather then let’s put an end to this disturbing trend. Love can’t last if you’re a woman who loves her designer bag better than her boyfriend?
